POINT LENANA
It was a battle of the slippery slope, a battle against gravity at the mercy of harsh weather conditions. All the nerves were streaming in from the building anticipation, as they say the best views come after the hardest climb, we had a task at hand and it was no easy task. I had so many conversations with myself as I negotiated the unforgiving trails. Had I just woken up and plunged into an unforgettable mistake, was it worth it?
SHIPTON CAMPSITE
Located just below the Mount Kenya peaks, Shipton Campsite sits at an altitude of 4200m asl. It oozes a sublime view of the snow-capped peaks emitting mountain smoke. It is dominated by wild flowers, lobelia and giant groundsel giving you all the desired motivation before the last stretch. Accommodation is in bunkers.
LAKE MICHAELSON
The first glance of this Lake cut to the heart of the hike with laser-like accuracy, I was thoroughly amazed as it was a beauty. The thought of camping by it’s quarters had me singing in full praise of Mama Africa. God really blessed this continent and saved the best views for a heart with a purpose and a soul with the hunger, Lake Michaelson was thrilling and compelling in its own right.
LAKE ELLIS
The nicer part about hiking is the expectations that cloud your mind for all the good reasons, Lake Ellis met all my expectations in surplus amounts. It was imperious. I could sense the adrenaline kicking and and desire pulling from within me, we had arrived and the mountains were pressing on the gas peddle at full throttle, a sweet welcome home gesture. I felt awe-inspired.
